What we do – Floating Energy Systems

We are recognized experts in the FPSO industry. Our founder, Mike Wyllie, has executed multiple pioneering FPSO projects during his 23 years working at SBM Offshore, from the simple vessels of the 1990s up to the latest mega-projects in the Brazilian pre-salt fields.

He also managed the operations of a global fleet of 14 FPSOs as well as the qualification and implementation of a wide range of new FPSO technology, playing a key role in SBM’s growth to become the pre-emanate FPSO Contractor.

Drawing on this unique experience, OpenWater Energy now supports our clients in all areas of FPSO design, project execution and operations.

Typical projects include;

  • Project Reviews during the conceptual design and tender stages focussed on identifying the key risks and opportunities and defining the associated mitigation and action plans.
  • Using the latest Standardisation techniques to reduce project cost and schedule and improve the certainty of a successful outcome.
  • Integrating the latest Digital and Robotics tools and processes to improve O&M performance, reduce offshore manning levels and reduce risk.
  • Screening available FPSO candidates for potential relocation to new fields.
  • Performing cost/benefit analyses for decarbonisation of FPSOs.

We also adapt this rich expertise to benefit the LNG Industry.  We have been involved in 5 Floating LNG (FLNG) projects to FEED level and are using the same principles of Standardisation, Digitalisation and Robotics, adapted from the FPSO industry, to improve the latest FLNG concepts.  At the other end of the LNG chain, we are helping to develop a range of standardised floating solutions for the LNG-to-Power market.

We believe that the floating energy systems of the future will include products such as green Hydrogen and Ammonia FPSOs and floating energy storage, and we are actively applying our skills and experience to help shape this emerging market.
